CDL Driver/Laborer
The Village of Wintersville, Ohio, is a dedicated community organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for our residents through efficient governance, sustainable development, and community engagement. We are seeking a full-time CDL/Laborer to work in the Street Department and Sanitation.
Pay: $16 per hour
Work Schedule: Generally, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 7a.m. to 3p.m., subject to shift change, approved overtime, call-out, and possible weekend work.

Job Purpose
The laborer or laborer CDL driver within the street department plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of public infrastructure. The employee will report to the Street and Sanitation Foreman along with Water and Wastewater. Under general supervision, the employee must perform a variety of manual tasks such as digging, shoveling, and lifting heavy materials to support construction and repair projects. The employee will be responsible for operating and maintaining specialized equipment, including vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), to transport materials and equipment to and from work sites. Will collaborate with a team of skilled workers and follow safety protocols to create a secure work environment. The employee’s work may involve repairing roads, sidewalks, and other public spaces, contributing directly to the improvement of community infrastructure. Strong physical stamina, attention to detail, and adherence to safety regulations are essential for success in this role. The Laborer/CDL driver may need to work in other departments such as water, sewer, and sanitation depending on their current position within Public Works. The Laborer/CDL driver is required to be available for callouts for water breaks, street repairs, snow plowing, and other inclement weather.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform physically demanding tasks such as digging, shoveling, and lifting to assist in construction, repair, and maintenance projects.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment used in construction and maintenance work, ranging from hand tools to power tools. For Laborer CDL Drivers, this includes the operation of specialized vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver's License.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment to and from work sites. Safely secure and distribute materials as needed.
- Prepare work sites by clearing debris, setting up barricades, and ensuring that safety protocols are followed.
- Assist in repairing and maintaining roads, sidewalks, and other public infrastructure. This may involve tasks such as patching asphalt, filling potholes, and repairing curbs.
- Implement and maintain traffic control measures to ensure the safety of workers and the public during construction or maintenance activities.
- Work collaboratively with a team of construction and maintenance professionals to complete projects efficiently and safely.
- Adhere to safety guidelines, regulations, and protocols to ensure a secure work environment. This includes following OSHA regulations and other safety standards.
- Conduct routine maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure proper functioning and longevity.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and hours worked. Provide necessary documentation for reporting purposes.
- Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, such as severe weather events or accidents, and assist in recovery efforts.
- Interact professionally with the public, addressing inquiries or concerns related to street maintenance activities.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
License
Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required. Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license.
